The Koala has very strong arms and legs as you can see in the picture above. It has rough pads on its hands and feet. The Koala has sharp claws and the first two digits of the hand are opposed to the other three, forming a powerful clamp. Their fingers are spread so that it seems like they have two thumbs. This gives them a better grip on the tree branches. The first digit of the foot has no claw and is opposed to the others. The second and third digits are fused together and are used as a comb to groom their fur. The foot has a similar toe spread for gripping, so the hands can be free to pull leaves for eating. Also the Koala has a good sense of smell because they sniff before selecting the leaf to eat and some leafs are poisonous.
